Complete total failure of government at its most basic task: to protect life and property.
The most basi task of government is to remain in power and you do not get re-elected by being a grown up, enforcing the law. People do not like you saying "no" even when you are stealing on camera.
You get re-elected by grand standing and finger pointing and giving away free stuff.
People like you saying "yes."
