So we read the following quote from yesterday's SEC Media days from our "Greatest Coach Ever":
"...Brandon Cox…has the luxury of having good people around him. That’s one thing Jason Campbell did not have when he first started...”
News flash to CTT - Jason Campbell's freshman year backfield included Messers Brown and Williams. On the defensive side of the ball, Mr. Campbell had Dontarrious Thomas and Karlos Dansby at linebacker. He also had Damon Duval, who I believe was all-SEC in all aspects of the kicking game that year and won the Florida game with a last-second field goal.
Sorry Coach; ol' Sobertiger does not drop the past down the memory hole. The problem that year and in most other years that CTT has been at the helm has been inept, pass-happy coaching. What Jason Campbell had going for him last year was his and his cohorts maturity level, our cupcake out of conference schedule, and a down year in the SEC. Get the ball in Carnell and Ronnie's hands in the games that mattered in 2003, and we have a big year, possibly an MNC year. And Jason Campbell would have had a great year as well, had he not been asked to pass on 2 out of every 3 plays.
Our new "genius" OC is yet another "Pass first/make excuses later" clone; if he follows a similar game plan this year, look for a return to 8-5, with four of those wins over Ball State, Miss. St., Western Ky., and UK.
And please, don't wear ORANGE to the Georgia Tech game. We are Auburn, not Tennessee.
