On the one hand you have people that are doing perhaps the best that they can do for a cause that is noble in intent.

But on the other, you have people that have no excuse for NOT knowing what the real situation is (it's not like Bob Geldof hasn't studied the issues), yet choose to focus on the wrong things because it's more glamorous, easier, or something.  Erasing African debts doesn't change the problems that led to the debt, sending money and food with no commitments for reform only hurts the continent in the long run, and essentially laying it all at the feet of the G8 countries implies that they are responsible in some way for causing it and should fix it (though they'd freak if they DID try and fix it the fastest way).  While the Western world does bear some burden for African problems due to the legacy of colonialism, apartheid, slavery, etc. it's not like plenty wasn't made available if these nations wanted to fix themselves.
