(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 1/29/2005 - 3:55 a.m.)Long time ago, there were three professions a woman could go besides housewife and mother...teaching, nursing, and secretary. Many women talented enough to be doctors, lawyers, engineers, and other professional specialties instead went into these fields. What happened was we had some of the finest teachers in the world, secretaries who could run an office all by themselves, and nurses who knew more about medicine than the doctors they served.
Nowadays, a woman talented enough to go into medicine, lawyering, and engineering, now actually go into them. I know there's exceptions (folks who have a passion for teaching, nursing, or being an office manager), but this has led to a lower quality in each of these positions.
