"I can only say this so many times..."

(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 1/27/2005 - 8:44 p.m.)

The Oscars have nothing to do with how good a movie is.  Stinkers win Best Picture, and good ones go without nominations.  Happens all the time.  There is absolutely no integrity or validity to the award.

The only thing the Oscars do is glorify an industry that needs constant glorification to make more money.  All they are is an awards ceremony, put on by people in the industry to give themselves a heaping of self-gratification.

One of the best examples of true Oscar integrity is the movie Good Will Hunting.  Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote the script and won the Oscar, right?  Wrong.  Matt Damon and Ben Affleck didn't write that movie.  Everyone here knows this, but probably you don't.  The real writer of Good Will Hunting is a man named William Goldman, who wrote Butch Cassidy, Princess Bride and many others.  But, Miramax knew they'd generate a wad of cash if they sold this movie as two sad-sack kids, trying to live the golden dream.  And the general public ate it up.  It made over 200 million domestic.

See, everyone here knew that Matt and Ben weren't the real writers, but they chose to give them the Oscar.  Why?  It's good for business.  When everyone in America is focused on what they're doing - cheering on Matt and Ben; watching the red carpet - they've sucked you in again and fooled you into think they're important.  That they're living the dream.  That if two kids from Boston can make it, so can you!

And if you think they're important, you'll pay to watch and listen to them.

Like fish on a reel.
