and before anyone says "Barner," or something else "clever" like that, I have a BS in Biology from UA (1998). I do not, however know the password or the secret handshake.
The fact is, Shula should look no further than Auburn, AL, to see how to build a program up. Tubs inherited a fairly bad football team, and has produced the team that he has today through good recruiting and good coaching. Yes, I said "coaching." He has some very good raw materials with which to work, and he and his staff have produced results. You can attribute his success in recruiting to "$$$$$$$" or whatever, but the fact is that they have outrecruited Alabama in at least 4 out of the last 5 years, and have done more with their talent. They have been blessed with very few injuries, and now have a potent team that could potentially go undefeated. It pains me to say it, but they are where Alabama needs to be. They have had consistency in offensive and defensive systems (don't buy the "New Gulf Coast Offense" baloney-it's the same offensive system they've had for years, with better execution,) which is crucial to having a good team.
This is not a reflection on our team at all, but rather a look inside why Auburn is much more successful right now than Alabama is. We have a long road ahead, and there will probably be more losses like yesterday until we get the QB situation ironed out to where we are not losing BECAUSE of QB play. I, for one, will be in Knoxville on 10/23, and I hope that I see a better effort than I saw last night in B-D.
JMHO, and take it FWIW.
