I hate high taxes, but I believe government has the best answer to many problems out there.
Like what? We differ in philosophy in that I believe that if you empower individuals and get out of their way, they will find solutions to their problems. Yes, there are some things that only government can do, but they're either huge in scope (space programs, infrastructure, etc.) or very narrow in scope as supposedly limited by the constitution (defense). Your statement also presupposes that high taxes (more money) solves problems. Educaton in America is perfect example of that not being true.
The Federal government has involved itself in the minutiae of daily life and there are still problems? Why are there still problems? I contend it is exactly because the Fed. gov't. has involved itself where it should not and has sucked resources away from areas where these problems can be solved. This attitude of "we can't do it, let the gov't. do it" subverts freedom and stifles innovation.
