"On the question of marriage . . ."
|
|
I believe biology speaks to it most readily. Marriage or bond forming is a basic human necessity predicated on the interest of children. Human children come into the world helpless and stay that way longer than most any other biological being. Children with mothers and fathers would live longer and better. From this primal beginning of just getting them to an age of self-defense in a hand to mouth world, we have culturally evolved to a world that requires more and more information to be passed from one generation to the other thus necessitating a longer and longer time for the mother and father to stay together for the good of the children. This culminated in a social structure whose foundation is in biology being formed in the form of marriage. Therefore, it is my belief that while we can play sematics with "marriage" the basic underlying biological facts are self-evident. Homos CANNOT have children, not by some defect of their genes or of their parts but by their fundamental makeup and thus cannot participate in "marriage" as it came into being historically, biologically and religiously. End of Story!
