"This is for the Auburn Nation..."

Here's some ammunition for those times when arrogant fans of some football
programs might claim how great they are ... and always have been ...
compared to how miserable you are, and always have been, especially when
compared to their position as the "greatest" college football program in
history, a "fact" which of course is universally accepted nationwide ...
according to them.
The facts are these:
* In Division I football, there are 117 programs. Over the past 50 years,
there have been a few more than that, but some have dropped football or have
moved to a lower division. Of course during that period, some lower division
teams have moved up to Division I.
* No question, being among the top six programs in winning percentage over
the past 50 years is a great accomplishment. Fans of most schools would take
that as matter of pride and not try to exaggerate their own achievements and
not try to untruthfully run down the record of their primary opponents.
* The top five programs of modern era football -- the past 50 years -- are
Ohio State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Penn State and Michigan. Alabama and Notre
Dame have not achieved that distinction on the field.
* In order to have achieved being among the top 10% of all programs in
college football in the past 50 years, a team would have to be among the top
11 programs. Auburn is 11th most winning program in the country over those
five decades ... certainly not as high as sixth ... but among the very elite
of college football over the course of modern history. (To listen to the
arrogant boasting of some fan groups, and the constant belittling coming
from those fan groups, and the way that many media allow that to be taken as
fact, you would think Auburn was lucky to ever win anything, much less
compete on a national scale with some other teams.)
* Auburn ranks third among all SEC teams over the past 50 years. Among the
top 11 teams, there is only one state in which two of the top 11 teams are
located -- the State of Alabama. There is no state which has two teams
listed among the top 10, so Alabama and Auburn represent the two most
successful programs from any single state in modern college football. Notice
that three teams from the state of Florida are #12, #13 and #14.
