"Kerry, Viet Nam, The military, National security "
|
(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 3/5/2004 - 10:22 a.m.) the issue is not patriotism but judgement. As w/ Pres. Carter.
Kerry has been on the wrong side of the crucial national security issues. It is not that he does not love America, or has not served well in a difficult moment. He misjudges the real intent of real enemies to America. Like Carter -- whose foreign policy was to allow time and a smile from us to turn bitter ideologically entrenched foes into kindly and benevolent friends -- Kerry fails to see that only national resolve and muscle will be able to overcome the present threat.
The "why do they hate us" tack is a false path. The reasons for the hatred are beyond the grasp our world view affords to us. 21st century, post enlightenment men are not equipped to enter the perspective of 14th century men who see the world in such apocalyptic terms.
Which man is most likely to see the threat as a genuine one, successfuly opposed only by a greater might and the will to use it? This is THE issue in this election.
