"Longtime Lair reg passed away last night."
|
Huntsvilly.
(I don't think they'd mind me copy/pasting this one from the Lair today.)
"This Outpouring of Love and Warmth for Huntsvilly Just Proves the Lair is a Family" Those words by IM4LSU earlier today is a perfect expression of my feeling. Tears have clouded my eyes regularly this morning as I have read the Lair and Alley. My gratitude is beyond expression.
For persons of Faith, Huntsvilly's time of death is almost breathtaking. He spent his last hour on this earth praying in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at his Catholic Church, as was his wont each Tuesday night. He left the church, drove home and suffered his fatal heart attack while speaking to his wife. It should be obvious to all that he was a deeply faithful, traditional Catholic. His death was quick and without long suffering.
His name: Willam H. Graham, 71, PHD. Received his bachelor and master degrees in organic chemistry from LSU, doctorate from Florida State and post-doctorate from Cal Tech studying under Linus Pauling.
Billy married his LSU sweetheart Anna Montelbano from New Orleans. they have five adult children and nine grandchildren.
He spent all of his working life in the NASA program working for Morton Thiakol in Huntsville, AL, in the development of rocket propellants. When he retired he headed up a group of some 150
persons.
In our 71 years together, we never had a substantial disagreement. He was a reactionary conservative in philosophy and proud of it. He started me on the path to Republicanism in the Goldwater years. Our saintly Catholic mother just KNEW that we were both going to hell for opposing the election of John F. Kennedy.
In retirement, his happiest times have been spent keyboard jousting on the Lair and more recently on the Alley. He loved zinging folks and geting zinged in return, but to him it was a rollicking game among friends and acquaintances. His intelligence always has left me in awe and his incredible memory was stunning. It seems that there was no minute fact about LSU football about which he did not have instant recall. The term male chauvinist pig was created to apply to Billy. To him, Title 9, was the greatest tragedy since the crucification of Christ.
May his soul rest in peace!
