Suits.
The difference between a hand sewn suit from Brooks Bros and a glued suit from The Men's Superstore is enormous.
Video and DVD.
The quality and quantity of film and video selections at some indy shops is much better, in my experience, than at a blockbuster. Sure, Blockbuster might have a nice movie here and there, but if its already checked out you're up a creek. While the indys might not have the quantity of film selection (10 jurassic parks vs 1 godfather 2), they do have a good "second choice" selection.
example: if you want to check out Seven Samuri (HA! like that'd be at BlockBuster) and its already been checked out, the film fan that works there might suggest Hidden Fortress or Ran.
Same for music. Esp. if you collect 78s or enjoy music that isn't played on the radio (ex: Ska/good punk/rockabilly/jazz)
Haircuts.
Nothing beats a good barber. Death to supercuts, fantastic sams.
