"David Housel releases statement on Tuberville:"
|
"It was no easy task being an Auburn fan in western Alabama during the 1950s: a young boy growing up in small Gordo Alabama was expected to be a fan of the Crimson Tide. It took courage and commmitment to an ideal which was bigger than yourself. An ideal best expressed in the "Auburn Creed." All Auburn men and women know this creed. And the good ones live by it. Yet creeds fail because creeds are mere words: a dim reflection of the true ideal -- the mystery that is known as 'Auburn, Sweet Auburn.'
Auburn is an intangible element. And that is what makes Auburn men and women special. And that is why I love Auburn University. Yes, in these times which try our soul, we must have the courage to be 'Auburn' men and women. For without courage, all other virtues lose their meaning. As Winston Churchill once said: success is not final and failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. No matter what obstacles the Auburn family faces in the coming weeks, together, the Auburn family must soldier forward trying to live by the 'Auburn Creed.' So though you may twist like flag in the wind Tommy Tuberville, know that it is the 'Auburn' spirit which is the wind beneath your wings. God Bless America, mom, apple-pie and Auburn University. Amen. Hallelujah. Beat Bama. And Pass the Peas."
