"Here's the deal:"

If I said it once, I've said it a 1,000 times: Auburn could and should have done better. But for better or for worse, Tuberville was the choice. And this Auburn fan can live with that. And as far as winning records go, Tuberville has far exceeded my initial expectations. Tuberville runs a clean program and he has proven to be a better than average coach. Auburn could do worse. Much worse. A 3-2 record against both Georgia and Alabama certainly makes it easier for me to make this evaluation. But perhaps Auburn deserves a better coach than Tuberville. A coach better than 8 wins a year. A coach that will do better than back into a three-way tie for the West. A coach who will take Auburn to the proverbial "next" level. Fair enough. But if "they" fire him, they are admitting they made a mistake five years ago. And what is the big deal about that? It happens to the most storied programs in the nation from time to time. You make a change and move on. But a tactical error turned strategic when Tuberville was given a massive buy-out clause after the end of last season. Simply put, credibility is the issue here. I don't trust these people to name anyone better than Tuberville.
