The truth is - I think his biggest mistake is he doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. Big promises that don't pan out, lead to disgruntled fans and disappointed players.
Being quietly optimistic is wise. Spurrier took it even further, often claiming that he wasn't sure if his team would win a game. Surprising the fans with a win is much better than surprising them with a loss.
Tub has been putting his foot in his mouth for years. It's a shame he hasn't learned his lesson, because I really believe he's a good coach. Maybe not the smartest, but definitely good.
