"this is what bugs me about your whole argument"

(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 11/19/2003 - 3:54 p.m.)

If some of you Bama Fans want to claim the 1930 posthumous Haberdasher's poll, that's fine, then go ahead and claim it. But the ones of you who do just that then turn around and want to say that Auburn has won but one, Ole Miss none and count only ND's API/UPI MNC and not all the others that they've won. And not even recognize Yale's many pre-1939 MNC's. The way I look at MNC is this: if the team claimed it at the time it is semi-legitimate. For instance Auburn was awarded the NYT MNC in 83 and 93. But no one of the 83 team seems to think we won a National Championship. All think we could have won it and most think that we deserved it more than Miami. But after the polls came out, no one was happy about being able to say "We the NYT calls us number 1". Its a consolation prize. And that's what all those posthumous awards are. Since you claim the 1930 and no doubt the 1941 prize are you going to say Ole Miss has won however many it is some Ole Miss fans claim? Are you going to concede that Yale has 12 National Championships? That Notre Dame has 20 or whatever number they have? Are you going to concede that Auburn won in 1912 (sic points allowed in 8 games), 1913 (no points allowed in nine games), 1932 (undefeated and Southern Conference champs) 1983 and 1993 as well as 1957, then I wouldn't have much to bitch about. For each of those years someone, somewhere has proclaimed Auburn to be the best team in the country. I don't though nor do I want to. AS for me, I am pleased to claim that Auburn won the National Championship in 1957. Pleased, but not satisfied.

See ... everytime the subject of our 12 National Championships comes up ... and I start going off about the 1930 undefeated team who gave up 13 points all year long & pitched 9 shutouts ..... the rebuttal I get is "go to the NCAA website and see how many they credit you with having ... so there ... nahhh". Well, seeing as how the NCAA only recognizes those NCs awarded since the advent of the standardized poll ... I can see that logic. But I digress. I was simply using the "go to the NCAA website" argument that some Aubies have used so eloquently over the years to debunk our NCs .... to debunk the thought that "Bama's tradtion was built upon cheating". The ....AHHHHHEMMM ..... record ..... says otherwise :)
