"How ... I can't find the word ..."
|
is this reaction immature? Paranoid? petty? insecure? silly? hypersensitive? All of the above?
As I recall, Brandon was being interviewed because he's from Lousiana and hasn't played in Tiger Stadium. Everyone knows that the coaches get state trooper escorts, and so he joked that maybe he would need an escort, too. The article that I read made it clear that he was joking. I took it as being somewhat complimentary to the loyal, vocal LSU fans. They, as they seem to like to do, turned this into something to get all frothy-mouthed about.
All of this hullabaloo from these LSU fans is just so ... immature and paranoid and petty and insecure and silly and hypersensitive! So what if someone smoked a cigar at their stadium a few years ago? So what if a visiting team jumped up and down on some painted grass? Do you hear UGA fans screaming several years later when players take home a piece of their hedge (which happens after every big home loss)? Does any rational fan base whine and cry when some visiting team goes over to its fans to help celebrate after a big road victory? I recall some team running out onto J-H field after half-time during the singing of the Auburn Alma Mater. At the time I thought it was very tacky and rude. Did Auburn fans freak out?
No.
Maybe LSU just doesn't have a natural rival so its fans need to generate artificial ill will over the most trivial of perceived slights. But it's not at all attractive. Tiger Stadium at night is a wonderful football setting and adds much to the overall SEC experience. All of this incessant whining over the silliest of things tarnishes that image, in my opinion at least.
