Coincidence? I think not.
"90,000 people wouldn't come to watch a math test, so why should the football program subsidize the Math Department?". While I do not take it with you as you understand this . . . that you cannot measure the effect or value of the Math Department in $$ like you measure football. We are unfornuately a species advanced by the few at the ire of the many. How should we value Einstein's math education, or Galileo's, or Newton's, or Kepler? At the very core of the University is this premise, NOT FOOTBALL!
