"Jazzy my man. . . "

(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 9/9/2003 - 12:48 a.m.)

If I thought that Dye would come back for even a nanosecond: I'd increase my GAF giving form Scholarship Donor to Organ Donor. I'd run naked in the streets of Fairhope shouting the news to the top of my single remaining lung. I'd open an account in his name at the Goalpost Package store. I'd go to the AUC and make sure his name on the locker is polished and shined. I'd go to Auburn and take the fall for whatever NCAA bull#badword# he's likely to bring on us in 4 months. I'd cry the tears that many years, save for '93, of mediocrity have pushed down deep. I'd drive to Highway 14 and stand on the side of the road with a banner that said, "We Missed you Pat. . . go for the TIE!" I'd "do justly love mercy and walk humbly with my God!, and because Auburn men and Women believe in [& do] these things I believe in Auburn, and love it" Of course I never stopped. I'd call all of my Bammer friends and tell them to kiss my ass on general principle. I'd bust out the ole #22 Brent Fullwood blue jersey, and the #10 James Bostic white jersey. I'd burn every #badword#ing orange piece of #badword# tshirt I've bought these last couple of years. I'd do all of those things, with the knowledge that a man is at the helm who doesn't have to as Tubbs put it, "discover that auburn tradtion just recently." (you know that comment tore a hole in Housel's heart) I can't begin to say what that old drunk means to me. Come back Pat, just for a little while. Come back and show us how real men beat the hell out of each other on the football field.
