"Well, I'm done"

I've invested a great part of myself into Auburn Football over the past 30+ years with 20+ of those years as a GAF 10 member. The money is unimportant. It was money I was willing to spend and no one went without food, so no harm -no foul. I am however, bankrupt on the emotional investment. I grew up with Shug as coach and Gusty and Gary on the radio. One of the things that I was always most proud of as a Tiger fan was knowing that our guys would lay it on the line every game. We might not win, but we would sure try to and the opposing players always said, "Auburn will pop you in the mouth." My, my, my....from that proud heritage to a punchline on a national joke. Sure there are always ups and downs and we've always weathered those. I never expect to win them all, but I have always expected to be in the game with a chance to win. And yes I've always been a Tiger, win, lose or draw.....always will be in my heart. But now the price of support has become too high. I have spent Saturday's away from my wife and kids and have planned my weekends (and their's by default) in the fall around football games. Now I go and not only can I not park where I wish and tailgate with my friends, but I now have to also suffer the indignity of embarrassment and shame of seeing the program in complete and total disarray. Well, I'm spent. I'm done. No more. I drank the orange Kool-Aid, but I'm getting off of it in 12 Step Program to get to a point where I can say, "It's only a game." and mean it. I'm burning the orange shirts. From now on, I'm only drinking No Bull#badword# Blue Kool-Aid and it's only blue or white shirts for me. I've attended my last game this year. I've offered all of my tickets to friends in my block and yes, that includes Alabama. If they don't take them, I'll be glad to offer them to the board. I'm done. It's over for me. I've got a new perspective....Mrs. Pooh was just diagnosed with diabetes. Somehow football just doesn't seem important any more. I might watch 'em on TV, but I'll no longer plan my day or weekends around it. In fact, I think I'll take my son fishing this weekend or maybe take a walk with the wife and start making up for some lost time. WAR EAGLE! Pooh
