The middle one graduated from HS this year. He had already been accepted to a couple of places and we felt the plan was set. Mid March, he comes to me and says "I'm not sure about going to school this fall". So I asked about his alternative (cause you are either in school or working - choose). His response was, the trades, specifically electrician. OK - let's see what that looks like. We knew someone who has a company, the middle Boro did a shadow and decided that's the direction he wanted to go. We check out the education options and find out that most of the companies will pay for school and let you work full time!
Fast forward mid summer. middle Boro calls our friend with the company, asks about going to work and doing the school thing. Guy says can you start the next day, he is struggling to find good help. Middle Boro says sure and he is off and running. Works full time, will go to school 2 nights a week starting in the fall - comes out in 4 years as a journeyman electrician. Three weeks in and he is loving it - even though he is working nights on the project he's assigned.
I was excited when the oldest graduated college on Saturday and was gainfully employed on Monday - never coming home. This may top that!
