We have been very private about everything going on with my little dude the last 3 weeks because honestly, we didnt know if he would survive.
Memorial Day weekend, right before Alex was getting ready for bed, he had a sudden episode of chest pain and difficulty breathing. He was taken to Huntsville Hospital W&C via ambulance and there we found out he had a PE (blood clot in his lung).
Fast forward a few hours and that clot broke off and caused another in his other lung and one to migrate to his heart. This ultimately led to 2 rounds of CPR, one med flight to Children's Hospital in birmingham , one open heart surgery, one energency heart cath, 4 days on ECMO, 8 days on ventilator, 9 days on continued dialysis, 3 chest tubes, 8 IV/central lines for his life saving medications, another surgery to remove the ECMO and multiple shifts with at least two nurses at all times.
After all this, and everything pointed in a direction with a poor outcome, this strong ass kid pulled through. Yesterday (the 10th) he was finally tranferred out of ICU and they have been working hard to build back his strength and coordination., another feat I know he will knock out of the ball ark.
SO SO GLAD Im finally getting to come down and see him.
And a huge shout out to Huntsville Hospital's Women and Children's ER, Children's of Birmingham and every inch of both the amazing hospital teams for doing what they do best and seeing Alex through all this.
