Auburn University is asking alumni and friends to show their support for a new Auburn specialty car tag that could soon be available in the Sunshine State.

A new Florida law, SB 364, reduces a requirement of pre-sold, out-of-state college license plates from 4,000 to 3,000.  As of June 13, Auburn had sold 2,335 pre-sale vouchers and only requires 665 more residents to place their order for production to begin.

Florida residents interested in purchasing a $33 pre-sale voucher online for an Auburn specialty tag should visit the Escambia County tax collector’s website. Escambia County is accepting payments for the entire state of Florida. In-person purchases can be made at any Florida resident’s local county tag office.

“After several years of hard work by Florida legislators and the Auburn clubs across the state, a new car tag will become available in Florida for alumni, fans and friends of Auburn University once the pre-sale number is reached,” said Jessica King, director of marketing and communications in Auburn Advancement. “With less than 650 pre-sale vouchers left to sell, residents in the state of Florida are encouraged to act now to make driving with Auburn pride a possibility."

Auburn tags are currently available in Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Once Florida reaches a pre-sale number of 3,000, a plate will become available for purchase. Proceeds from the sale of Auburn University license plates in Alabama go to the Auburn University “License to Learn” Scholarship Endowment Fund, a statewide program that raises funds for student scholarships. To date, more than $38 million has been raised for Auburn scholarships since the Auburn license plate program’s inception.
