"Coarch Dye"

Coarch's first farm or more accurately piece of rural property was in Notasulga. It was right across the road from my best friend's grandparents' house. He would drop by and check on them from time to time. My friend's grandpa took us over and gave us a tour of the place. He was as proud of it as if it was his own.

After the Lawyer Tillman reverse Iron Bowl win Coarch stopped in to check on Nannie. They talked about the win and Coarch said "I kinda showed my belly when we scored." That always makes me laugh when I think of him.

Nannie had an old dog that was sniffing around Coarch and she told him "Don't let him bother you. He just wants somebody to love on him." Coarch gave a fitting reply "Don't we all?"

My last memory of Coarch was a year or so ago looking up on the dairy aisle at Publix and seeing him standing there pondering the myriad of choices in the yogurt section. I started to speak but decided to let him shop in peace.

As mentioned in other poasts I count myself lucky to have been a student when he came to Auburn. My first year was Barfield's last. Football became fun and every week was "We can win this." and "What if we win?" speculation on polls and possibilities. There was not a dread of losing, rather a hope of winning. For that I will always appreciate Coarch Dye.
