BAMA TD DRAMA

A late Alabama TD it the Citrus Bowl ruffled Michigan's feathers. Was the score OK?

With less than 7:00 on the clock in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's Citrus Bowl, Alabama had the ball with a 28-16 lead over Michigan. The Tide methodically drove down the field, milking the clock and leaving Michigan without much time. However, at the end of that 12-play, 75-yard drive, Alabama RB Najee Harris plunged into the end zone from two yards out with 26 seconds left to give the Tide a 35-16 victory.

In the aftermath of that game, the final touchdown has created a bit of controversy. Here's a look at what's being said about the ending of Wednesday's Citrus Bowl:

  • The issue was the situation with the score and game clock. When Harris scored this touchdown, it was 3rd-and-goal with under 30 seconds left. Michigan was out of timeouts, too, so a simple QB kneel would have finished off the win for Alabama. Instead, Nick Saban's squad went for the jugular and ran up the score. That prompted Michigan LB Cameron McGrone to call it "kind of a smack in the face."
  • Not everyone disliked Alabama's decision to score again, though. SEC Network host Paul Finebaum (who has a long-running feud with Jim Harbaugh) loved it, and thinks most fans probably enjoyed seeing Harris plunge into the end zone. “He decided, you know what? My foot is on his throat. I’m just going to kick him one more time," Finebaum said. "I felt like the college-football world cheered Saban yesterday in doing that. I know I did. Leave it to Nick Saban in a game against a middle-of-the-pack Big Ten team with an additional score at the end to make a statement to end a season with most Alabama fans feeling good about themselves.”
  • Nick Saban said the game was all about re-establishing a culture. He acknowledged that 10-2 is a down year for Bama, but said it was important to finish the year on a positive note by picking up win No. 11 in the bowl game. "They wanted to prove that this is the culture that was established for a number of years here by a lot of good players, and I think they have a lot of pride in that, and I think they wanted to come out today and prove that this is what Alabama football, the culture of Alabama football is really all about," he said.
  • On the other sideline, it was a long day for Jim Harbaugh. Following Michigan's fourth-straight bowl loss, Harbaugh was taken to task on social media. Media members everywhere, including Clay Travis and ESPN's Emmanuel Acho, ripped the Wolverines' head coach in the aftermath of the Citrus Bowl.
The Citrus Bowl was certainly an exciting one, as Alabama had to come back after a slow first half. Where do these two programs go from here? Alabama snagged the momentum out of Michigan's hands heading into the long offseason.==============================

that we didn't try and on-side kick afterwards.  It would have been great to score again.
