"War Damn K-State"
|
Edited by Author at 7/1/2017 - 8:01 a.m.
So Aubiece and I journeyed to Kansas State in 2014 for the game. My wife's division chief's dad (top that Bear's Boy) graduated with an engineering degree from K-State in the late 1940's. Since my wife had mentioned I was driving to Manhattan KS to her division chief, the division chief asked if I would pick up some KSTATE memorabilia while there for her dad, who from all accounts loved Manhattan but had not been back to the campus in several years. So I did--a couple of hats, glasses with the wildcat logo, took some photos of campus etc. Brought them back with me to Florida, gave them to wife's DC who gave them to her dad (who lived in New Bedford Mass.) He was very grateful and mentioned how nice it was that I flew to Kansas and brought this stuff back. She told her dad that no, I drove up there with my brother in my Lincoln.
The father was even more impressed as he likes Lincoln.
A few months ago, the father passed away after a year long illness. He was well in his 90's but up until six months before his death he was still driving. At the time of his death he owned a 2002 Lincoln Continental with ~30,000 miles on it. It is now going to be mine with the condition that I put the above AU/KSTATE House Divided plate on the front (wife's DC liked our AU/Vandy plate my wife had). So pretty damned neat if you ask me and even if you don't.
I get another Geezer car and got to see an Auburn victory.(I will put on hold my desire for the 2017 Continental--I was disappointed no suicide doors and only a V6 until I saw it was a twin turbo V6 with 400 BHP). If you're keeping count this will be Lincoln #4.
My first was my high school car--1968 Lincoln Continental. The hydraulic system failed at about 100,000 miles. The hydraulics ran t power windows, power steering, windshield wipers and vacuum pump for the vacuum door locks.
Second was a 2002 Lincoln Continental. It lasted 200,000 miles for me when I ended up giving it to me kid---and we decided the costs of repairs weere exceeding the KBB--in this car's case, the gas tank started leaking, from the top and it was going to cost $700 just to see whether it was leak in the tank (easily repairable by replacing the tank) or a fuel line leak (not so easy) So I sold it to the parts man.
Third one is my most recent a 2006 Lincoln LS--once again the power steering pump has just about shot at 200,000 miles. I also had an unfortunate incident in the SwampGas Towers parking garage which knocked my driver mirror off. Loved the 4.0 AJ* Jag engine in it, but unfortunately Ford did the "fire and forget" for the LS so it was outdated in 2006. Would have loved to see the newer AJ engines in that platform--the 550 bhp supercharged 5.0 liter would been great.
Bear Bryant drove a Cadillac. You can look it up.
