I don't know if BIGJOE was any happier (including when his grandchildren were born) than he was after that game for the rest of his life, Punt Bama Punt, Bo Over The Top, Nix to Sanders, and the Camback notwithstanding. He was probably happier when he got married to AUMEME and when he came home from the Korean War, but this was a close third. IMO.
I know he was pissed that Shug didn't go for two. But still. He laughed for two months straight after that. Carried a little orange bag with 49-26 stenciled on it with a laughing box inside that just laughed and laughed and laughed.
He got home from Lesion Field (I was only ten and watched on the radio) and described the play perfectly, including the Bama players looking in the air for the ball.
I love that video. Frederick fakes Johnny Musso out of his jock strap at about the 30. Let' s watch it again.
