My 72 year old mom slipped on some loose gravel in Sicily.
Had a compound fracture of tibia and fibula.
She low-crawled ~1000ft to a highway. really scraped up her legs.
After a day in a rural italian hospital she got transported to US Navy base at sigonella.
Mom was in the Army 22 years (72-94) & had the occasion to use her basic training skills once (Panamanian Coup in 89). She credits getting discovered and removed from that rural road to skills learned at Fort Jackson 45 years ago.
