I voted for Donald Trump in the general election, not because I wanted to but because I felt I had to. I could have voted for a third-party candidate or written in Mickey Mouse or Hobbes, not that Hobbes and Mickey Mouse are interchangeable because only one of them is a lawyer. I could have voted for almost anyone because I live in Alabama and Trump was going to win Alabama regardless of how I voted. I did not vote for him in the primary.
I voted for Trump because the media told me Hillary Clinton was going to win. It was a sure thing. I did not want to be part of anything that put her in the office. The best possible vote against Clinton was for Trump’s outside chance at the electoral college. Anything else was a vote for Clinton and I would not do that. I did not want her appointing one or two “big government” Supreme Court justices on principle and I did not want someone with a deep-seated disdain for the men and women who serve this country in uniform as commander in chief. And when I say deep-seated disdain I mean a First Lady who told an Army Captain, in the execution of his duties as part of the White House communications team, to “leave me alone you MORON” and that was just one first-hand tale.
I will not celebrate the inauguration. I look forward to the next two years with trepidation. I am glad to see Obama leaving power but I too wish someone more reliable was going in. I won’t say I’m scared because I believe that common sense and the Constitutional balance of powers will keep anything “world ending” from happening. Perhaps Trump on the heels of Obama will force Congress to do their job.
I said all that to say this. I have made quite a show of keeping track of all the adjectives used to describe “Trump Voters”. I won’t list them here but you have all seen them. I told someone in Mudmail I don’t really take this personally but I use the guise of taking it as a personal attack to make a point. I do take umbrage when people who, in going after Trump, feel compelled to take shots at those who elected him. As Fowl River said below, millions voted for him, and he is the President IAW the law of the land. I wasn’t happy when Clinton was elected with a smaller percentage of the popular vote in 1992 than Trump received this time, but the Constitution worked. It did again in November.
I work with dozens of active and retired Army officers and NCOs who almost to a man or woman voted for Trump. Almost all of them, black, Hispanic, or white, have at least undergraduate degrees and have served this country as Presidents have come and gone. They are neither uneducated nor deplorable. They are great Americans. Don’t insult them and then get mad and complain about people using "snowflakes" when you continue to use far harsher language to describe them. Go ahead and take shots at Trump, he entered the arena and is fair game. The voters people insult merely exercised their franchise the way the Constitution intended. Trust me, I know many, many people who voted for Trump who aren’t mouth breathers. The other side just left them no choice.
