I am the leader of the Men’s Club at Church and we are starting an outreach where we will bring in speakers for a “Men’s First and Goal” evening with dinner, contemporary Christian music, and a speaker of some renown. Well, one of the guys I contacted was Captain Crunch. Been e-mailing back and forth with an assistant, then Friday morning my phone rang and the voice on the other end said, “Good morning, this is Mike Kolen.” Well this 57 year old leader of men, retired Army Aviator, government bureaucrat extraordinaire…… reverted into a 12 year old kid trying to grab a chin strap after a game at Cliff Hare stadium. I could barely put sentences together and couldn’t decide whether to call him Mike, Mr. Kolen, Captain Crunch, or what. After getting over my initial clumsiness we made arrangements for him to speak at our gathering on March 16 next year. We talked a little while and then on Saturday a copy of his book, autographed to me, appeared in my mailbox. It's not a chin strap but I'll take it.
So, those of you in the Wiregrass if you would like to come hear Captain Crunch tell his story at First United Methodist Church in Enterprise let me know. I will have tickets.
