"Just like Trump, and everyone else in this world"

What a bunch of pretentious tick turds.

As though if they were alive back then they would have been the beacon's of progressive tolerence and acceptance.

We all need to give them time. People do not mature overnight and some of them never do-that doesn't mean we don't need to give them a chance. Yes, there are a lot of people out there who think they have the right to immediate gratification. Yes there are a lot of people throwing temper tantrums right now. Yes, our current president is not throwing fuel on that fire or making any significant effort to douse it-he is basically letting people hold their breath until they turn blue and pass out, and letting them continue ad nauseum. Which can be, if used patiently, effective over time. I had a very interesting talk with a millennial who wanted to listen over the weekend. We went over a lot of historical ground (starting with JFK), in an effort to give perspective to what is happening in this country right now. All during the conversation, there were instances in which this person expressed extreme surprise at the fact that these things were not known, and no one had publically brought them to light in the way in which millennials receive information, which is through friends and the internet. They are no longer watching TV; the watch Netflix. Many barely even use Facebook-Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat are now their information sources of choice, and these information choices are largely non-verbal, and heavily biased based on the users' choice. They know they can go to YouTube if there is some event that they might like to have seen. The greatest tragedy is that many of our colleges have become so irrelevant in stimulating honest discussion of current events, that they are little less than summer camps. And the people in charge of them are so afraid of losing their precious jobs, money, and power, that they coddle every whim. At the end of the conversation, neither one of us had really changed either's mind about our opinions. But at least we had a much greater understanding and respect for the stance(s) we each took. There was no rock throwing or burning, except the part where we unintentionally burned up a rubber glove in the dishwasher which was another household disaster averted! I went away feeling much better than I had all week. Maybe if people are willing to sit down and really listen, bit by bit, we can all get past the screaming and anger and start really understanding. But also maybe not. Most people only listen to respond, rather than receive information.
