So....Battle at Bristol.
First, it was an amazing site. 157k people at a racetrack cheering on their teams. The spectacle of the pre-game, anthem, halftime and the game itself was pretty amazing. Interesting concept that will lose its novelty quickly if done a few more times.
Second, IMO, represents part of the problem with college athletics, specifically football. This is probably my older "get off my damn lawn" age talking, but it was too big. Too much of a spectacle. Too much of too much. And it seemed too big for a college athletic event. I enjoyed the game, enjoyed the sights and sounds (especially the drunk VT girl sitting just down from us that seem to have no problem showing a lot of herself). But it didn't sit right, didn't feel right.
Thought I would give my $0.02 worth on that. I knew you were all waiting on it.

I was one of the most skeptical people out there about this game, and I didn't even want to go, but two of my nephews backed out and my son T wanted to go. So,... I had a great time. If I had to do it all over again, I would have taken an extra day and I would have stayed (camped?) close to the speedway. I thought the organizers did a fantastic job. Not perfect by any stretch, but much better than I expected. The win helped, but the experience was worth it in and of itself. I'm not easily impressd, but I was. Perhaps my low expectations helped. Here are pictures of my son and nephews and our view.
