Why do we have holocaust museums/memorials in America?
The holocaust didn't happen here.
There were other atrocities that happened in history which we don't comemorate (Armenian genocide, Ukraine under Stalin, Mao, the Khmer Rouge, Rwanda, etc.)
I've never understood why they are so prevalent on this side of the pond.

As a non-Jew, I want the Holocaust museum in America to remind us that Germany at the turn of the 20th century was perhaps the most advanced human society until that time politically socially and culturally. That such a society could devolve into the Nazis and cause the Holocaust is a cautionary tale that the same could happen anywhere.
