Two years ago my wife was diagnosed with Acute Lymphobastic Leukemia after a routine blood test. Now it's been a long haul of of treatments, tests, transfusions and a transplant of donor blood with healthy stem cells. None of her family was a good match so the hospital accessed a world wide data base and found a perfect match over in Poland. A 25 year-old male.
A unit of donor blood was flown over here and the doctors did the transplant. The plan was to replace her bad stem cells after a long prep period and have the new cells eat up all her bad ones. Like Pac man I guess. And now her blood has been completely changed over to the new blood. With new DNA! Amazing.
So two weeks ago the doctors told her she is in complete remission and her hospital visits will be only once a month - from once/week. Her hair has grown back nicely and she is getting stronger by the day. I've even started letting her drive. Whew.
