we opened a season playing totally off the chain on defense in the "opening half" of play. Then, as we all know, Lawson never returned after halftime, neither did our defense until almost two months later in the season. With Lawson's return, it marked a starting point for us to begin seeing a subtle game by game improvement on defense.
The bowl game arrives. I, for one, was not feeling too keen about competing with the vaunted Memphis offense. This apprehension was made much easier after watching what Baylor did to Chizik's defense the night before.
A 1st half of play saw both teams hanging close with both offenses shooting its own foot off, but the 2nd half, the "final half" of our 2015 campaign, we witnessed a defensive revival not seen since the 1st half opening day. A formidable set of book-ends that makes me think if a few changes are made in the asst coaching ranks we may be able to see this level of performance as the rule instead of by exception.
War Eagle! We survived...by the way, both opening and closing games saw us score 31 points, also a matching set for our offense.
