Bryant to me was color blind when it came to his players.....I think he was slow

to intergrate his Alabama teams because of one George C. Wallace. IMHO, bryant was concerned that if he Bryant moved to quickly, Wallace would retaliate against the Univeristy.==============================

Bryant's color blindness is not the issue. His mythological "courage" and leadership in the integration of Southern football is the issue we are discussing here. He did not have much courage in that regard. 70% of the SEC had integrated by the time he signed Wilbur Jackson. He was a follower on this issue, not a leader. Thus, the need for "the legend," so that Bryant can be some paragon of virtue instead of what he was: a great football coach.

If there was one man who had the political clout to stand up to Wallace back then, it was Bryant. He didn't. He played it safe.
