About the chuch this article came out of

This was at one time Two Rivers Baptist church - one of the largest in Nashville until they went through a split about 10 years ago. The church split over a pastor too empowered by his tenure to listen to anyone (imagine that a prideful Baptist pastor). That said, the pastor left, church fell on hard times (of which we took advantage, buying their grand piano for a steal, like any good southern Baptist church would help another) but remained afloat. It has slowly recovered to become a thriving, growing church, driven by essentially what has been laid out in this article: Rule #1, love God; Rule #2 love others - both are unconditional, I may not agree with the actions, lifestyle or choices of others but when I find myself judging (which by the way I am really good at) I have to remind myself of Rule #2

==============================

Never mind all this stuff about God as the one in whom we live, move and have being, there is a new trinity -- my holy wants, my holy needs and my holy feelings.  That stuff Jesus said about denying self and taking up a cross was 1st century Palestinian theatre.  Affirm yourself.  Aggrandize yourself.  Jesus said whoever wishes to keep his life must lose it and whoever gives his life away for the sake of the kingdom will keep it.  What did he know about 21st century reality TV angst? Identity is in whatever the world says it is until the wind changes and then you can chase the next shiny toy..

I am not for beating up on Jenner.  He has suffered enough being trapped in that dreadful family.  But there is a lot of real estate between not beating up on him/her and applauding him/her as some sort of Jackie Robinson or Susan Anthony.  My complaint is not with Jenner but with people who ought to know better than to see his sadness as something to aspire to.

“Cheap grace is the grace we bestow on ourselves. Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, Communion without confession.... Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate.”    ― Dietrich Bonhoeffer
