I worked for Mr Roy Sewell's company for over 25 years. He was Auburn's biggest booster. He bought the song War Eagle in 1954. The new athletic dorm was named for him back when schools actually had those dorms.
He was talking one day about that song. He said, "Yeah I wanted Auburn to have a fight song. So in 1954 I flew up to New York and went to tin pan alley and talked to Al Stillman. I told him I wanted Auburn to have a great fight song, one that would stir the fans like say,...On Wisconsin. So I gave him $10,000 and he wrote "War Eagle" for me."
Mr. Roy donated the song and the rights to Auburn.
