"I have two problems with Harvey Up#badword#.....a. he is still breathing and b."

Message Replied To ==========

I'm gonna beat a dead horse for a minute...

Sometimes, things bother you that you know are not a big deal. This is probably one of those things. But it still bothers me.

And sometimes, things are just best left unsaid. This is probably one of them, but I don't unsaid things. I said them.

And, it's really silly to even be bringing this up in the middle of football season, but whatever...it's on my mind so I'm going to say it. (obviously, not a lot going on in my life at this very moment!)

About two weeks ago, I chimed in on a thread about Harvey Updyke and about the emotions that Auburn people feel about him. BatJac told me, something like, "look, jackass, know your damn roll on this Auburn board, or take your bammer ass to TI before I mail you anthrax, and slap Hobbes for creating you" (or...that's how I remember it)

It was understandable. Auburn folks don't want to hear an Alabama fan commenting on how he thinks Auburn people should feel about Harvey Updyke. Others may have felt the same way BatJac did if they saw my post.

I moved on from it, but I admit it bothered me for three reasons. (1) I like BatJac and didn't mean any disrespect to the board (2) I don't want Hobbes to get slapped (3) I wasn't smart enough at the time to articulate why I was even chiming in, in the first place.

Coincidently, somebody ask me today what I felt about Updyke and it came to me...

"he's a delusional white trash loser who has mistaken his embarrassingly infamous notoriety as being some important figure for Alabama football. He doesn't deserve any of the attention he has got from this."

In other words...I wish people would just ignore the idiot.

Harvey doesn't represent The University of Alabama. But he DOES represent dirt road alums like me, who may not have attended UA, but still genuinely love it as much as somebody who didn't attend there can. Every time Harvey sends out a tweet, or that stupid Roll Tide/War Eagle special comes on where he is featured, or somebody writes an article about him, it pisses me off just like it pisses you off. Just in a different way.

When I chimed in on that thread a week or so ago, I was pissed because of the reasons mentioned above. The point still stands that there are some conversations here that me and other Bama fans might need to just bow out of. But for what it's worth, the quote above gives a better representation about where by brain was when I chimed in.

Unnecessary, much ado about nothing, rant over.

P.S. I had a friend potato sandwich for lunch today. White bread, mayonnaise and ketchup. Bad for your heart...wonderful for your soul!

==============================

he has ruined one of the great traditions in college football; and traditions that are handed down from one generation of college fans to next is what separates college from the pros. Now I personally dont give a rip about Toomers Corner or the trees, but it did bother me when I read about the poisoning.

When my son was 7, I took him to his first Bama game on campus....we wandered aound the Quad before the game, looked at the hand prints of all the great Bama captains at the foot of Denny Chimes, etc... and I thought it was way cool cause I did the same thing decades ago when i was a student.

So what that low life white trash POS has done is ruined a great college football expereince for the young children and grandchildren of this generation of  aubies and deprived the alumn and long time fans the coolness of bringing their own kids to campus and enjoying the tradition.

Just my two cents.

BTW, yall still suck. Cool

"Children's Crusade"  by Sting

Young men, soldiers, Nineteen Fourteen
Marching through countries they'd never seen
Virgins with rifles, a game of charades
All for a Children's Crusade

Pawns in the game are not victims of chance
Strewn on the fields of Belgium and France
Poppies for young men, death's bitter trade
All of those young lives betrayed

The children of England would never be slaves
They're trapped on the wire and dying in waves
The flower of England face down in the mud
And stained in the blood of a whole generation

Corpulent generals safe behind lines
History's lessons drowned in red wine
Poppies for young men, death's bitter trade
All of those young lives betrayed
All for a Children's Crusade

The children of England would never be slaves
They're trapped on the wire and dying in waves
The flower of England face down in the mud
And stained in the blood of a whole generation

Midnight in Soho, Nineteen Eighty-four
Fixing in doorways, opium slaves
Poppies for young men, such bitter trade
All of those young lives betrayed
All for a Children's Crusade
