Take Alabama Public Service Commission candidate Chris "Chip" Beeker Jr.
Beeker is among the loudest of loudmouths campaigning against "overreach of the federal government."
"As a proud Alabamian and a committed Ronald Reagan conservative Republican, I can no longer stand on the sidelines while federal bureaucrats, out-of-state liberals, and their misguided allies attempt to run roughshod across our state," he boasts.
Not that he has stood on the sidelines.
Beeker hates the feds so much that he accepted $442,213 in federal farm subsidies between 1995 and 2011, according to the farm subsidy database. Beeker, a catfish farmer in Greene County, got an average of $40,000 a year in subsidies between 2007 and 2011.
Which is more than the average Alabamian makes in a whole year.

But grand jury testimony included in Supreme Court filings in the case involving White left this ... documentation.
White, you recall, was convicted of taking a bribe from contractor Sohan Singh. In grand jury a prosecutor asked Singh if he ever gave money to Smoot.
Singh – under oath -- responded this way:
" ... She kind of expressed the need for the money for various – whatever reasons she had," Singh testified. "She didn't explain. And I gave her the cash a couple – one or two – about two times during her time in office."
"She became very friendly and started helping us and supporting us," Singh said.
About twenty years ago Singh and Singh's partner was in BIGJOE's office explaining his (Singh's) plans to and how BIGJOE could help him re: civil engineering etc. Basically he wanted BIGJOE to sign Singh's plans in blank for a very very large sum of money.
